Oliver Glasner Turns Down More Signings as Nottingham Forest Prioritize Squad Stability

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner has revealed that he rejected the opportunity to bring in more players during the summer transfer window. Despite owner Evangelos Marinakis being prepared to provide additional funds, the Austrian coach chose to maintain the balance of his squad rather than make major changes at the City Ground.
Glasner’s first weeks in charge have produced mixed results, with Forest collecting five points from their opening five Premier League matches and sitting 13th in the early standings. A defeat against Coventry City before the international break provided another test for the team, which is preparing for an away fixture against Crystal Palace on October 11.
Forest still enjoyed a productive transfer window despite limiting the number of new arrivals. The club brought in several promising additions, including Ousmane Diomande, Daniel Munoz, Xaver Schlager, and Liam Delap. Glasner believed the squad already had enough depth and flexibility, particularly with Forest not having European competition to contend with this season.
The decision to stop further recruitment was ultimately made by Glasner himself. Rather than adding players simply because financial resources were available, he preferred to give the existing group more time to develop under his methods. The manager also sees the January transfer window as a better opportunity to assess any remaining weaknesses and make more targeted additions.
Glasner’s approach represents a notable change from Forest’s previous transfer strategy, with Marinakis having developed a reputation for spending heavily on new players. The current squad is considered well balanced, featuring three goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, and six forwards with the ability to cover multiple positions. For Glasner, maintaining that structure could provide a stronger foundation than pursuing further signings without a clear need.
