Inside the Massive Financial Deal Behind Diego Moreira’s Milan Era

Diego Moreira has made an immediate impression at AC Milan, capped off by his standout goal in the team's victory against US Lecce at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on September 20, 2026. This impressive early performance highlights his status as one of the most significant financial investments in the history of the Italian club. Signed from French outfit RC Strasbourg for a base fee of €51 million, the total transaction value could rise dramatically to €67.8 million once various performance-related add-ons are met. This places him second only to Goncalo Ramos on the club's list of all-time expensive arrivals, even eclipsing the fee paid for star forward Rafael Leao.

The multi-tiered structure of the agreement contains several specific performance triggers that will dictate the final payout to Strasbourg. For instance, should the Belgian talent contribute directly to ten goals in a single season through either scoring or assisting, the French club receives an additional €2.051 million payout. Furthermore, appearances also carry direct costs, as starting at least fifteen matches and playing a minimum of 45 minutes in each triggers a €1.025 million bonus, an incentive that can be activated up to two separate times over the duration of his contract.

Team-level achievements within domestic and continental football play an equally substantial role in shaping the final financial package. Should AC Milan secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League while Moreira logs at least 2,000 playing minutes in Serie A, Strasbourg is entitled to collect another €1.025 million. Should the Rossoneri go all the way and lift the Serie A title with Moreira playing a pivotal role, that bonus escalates to €1.538 million in place of the Champions League clause.

The complexity of the deal extends to future transfer scenarios, featuring a detailed sell-on structure based on net profit from any potential sale down the line. If Milan decides to sell Moreira in the future for a fee between €50 million and €55 million, Strasbourg retains a guaranteed €5 million share. Should his valuation soar higher and result in a future transfer ranging from €70 million to €100 million, the percentage payout to his former club rises to €6.75 million.

Ultimately, these intricate clauses demonstrate the immense financial commitment AC Milan has made to secure the young winger's services long-term. Navigating such a heavily structured deal reflects the modern transfer market's reliance on performance metrics and deferred risk sharing. As the season unfolds, the club hopes Moreira's raw talent and ongoing tactical development will translate into trophies and justify every euro invested in his potential.
